Archbishop Chaput describes Vatican II as the “primary grace of God to the Catholic Church in the 20th century.” And yet, since Vatican II, the Catholic Church in America has suffered greatly. In particular, the numbers of Catholic seminarians, priests, and nuns have plummeted. Chaput explains why this is, and is not, a dilemma.

About Archbishop Charles Chaput Archbishop Charles J. Chaput has led the Roman Catholic diocese of Denver since 1997. He grew up in Kansas, became a Franciscan in 1965, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1970. He holds degrees from St. Fidelis College, Catholic University, and Capuchin College. Archbishop Chaput is the author most recently of Render unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life.
